Video: Hit and Run is speeding towards a theater near you

Hit and Run

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls of appropriate ages, your requisite dose of big-screen fast driving is here. And it looks pretty darn funny, too.

The movie in question is called Hit and Run. It was written and directed by Dax Shepard, who also stars in the film alongside such notables as Bradley Cooper, Tom Arnold, a couple of girls named Kristen, a custom '67 Lincoln Continental hot rod and a 700-horsepower off-road racing buggy. The comedy (not to be confused with the 1924, 1938, 1957, 1959, 1966, 1975, 1996, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010 or 2011 movies of the same name) centers around a guy whose past as a bank-robbing getaway driver comes back to haunt him, forcing him and his girlfriend to hit the road.

It tickles us in all the right places, but we'll let you judge for yourself from the trailer down below. Look for it at local theaters from August 24.

Kung Fu Vettel

We've gotten used to seeing Sebastian Vettel kicks some ass on the race track. After all, he is the reigning Formula One world champion twice over. But in a kung-fu movie? We've got to be kidding, right?

Only we're not. As you may recall, Infiniti - the luxury automaker that sponsors both Vettel himself and his Red Bull Racing team - announced about a month ago that the German driver would be starring alongside action star Celina Jade in a short film. Called Drive of the Dragon, it's the first in a multi-part promotional campaign being undertaken by the Japanese automaker. The flick has made its debut, and you can check it out by scrolling down below. But be warned: cheesiness will ensue.

Video: La-Z-Boy: The most comfortable way to travel

We don't know anything about this man or the chair he's driving. Yes, driving. We just know that he was apparently caught in China, doing a nice clip on the shoulder of a rather nice multi-lane road, in what looks like a custom sofa chair. There's some sort of contraption between his feet that looks like a control panel, but it could just as likely be a wombat cage or a pot of gold.

And we give him props: whatever he's doing, he looks cool as hell doing it. Have a look below for the video.

Report: Jerry Seinfeld returning to TV with Comics and Cars

Jerry Seinfeld

Jerry Seinfeld may be planning to stage a return to television. The comic and car fanatic has been dropping hints about a new project tentatively called "Comics and Cars." Details are iffy at the moment, though the premise seems to circle around Seinfeld and his wealthy friends hanging out and talking about various vehicles.

Names like Alec Baldwin, Ricky Gervais and Larry David have all surfaced as potential candidates, though it's unclear if Seinfeld will rely on a regular panel of hosts or a slurry of rotating guests. Seinfeld has tried his hand at reality television in the past, though without much success.

The comic's last project, The Marriage Ref, bumbled along for two seasons on NBC before being canceled. There's no doubt that Seinfeld is both funny and a genuine car guy, but if shows like Top Gear USA and The Car Show have proven anything, it's that it takes more than those two elements to succeed.

Video: What kind of baboons would do this to a Hyundai i30 hatchback?

Hyundai i30 covered in baboons

Baboons are curious creatures. And, thanks to their opposable thumbs, they are rather excellent at satiating that curiosity, no matter what impediments stand in their way. Apparently, that includes door handles.

Hyundai decided there was no better way to test the durability of its i30 hatchback (that's the Elantra GT here in the States) than to send it into Knowsley Safari Park, near Liverpool in the UK. Specifically, into the Baboon habitat.

As you'll see in the video after the break, the primates do their very best to rip the little hatchback to shreds, biting every surface, jumping up and down and from door to door and generally mucking about. How does the Hyundai cope with this kind of abuse? Scroll down below to find out yourself.

Video: Power to the Pedals: Ferrari FXX gets the human-powered treatment

05/08/2012   [Original: Autoblog]
Category: Etc., Videos, Humor

We at Autoblog, por supuesto, love us some behind-the-scenes car development videos. We also dig smart humor, and we think the two are gloriously combined in this German take on almost every dramatic engineering/track/shakedown vid that has hit the YouTubes. Until it gets a tad too absurd, at least...

Put together by the same gents who earlier made an aluminum-foil Porshce 911 bike, this time they've worked up a car they call the Fahrradi Farfalla FXX which is loosely based on a whole lot of other cars. When they give it the shakedown in a German tunnel, well, you'll just have to see for yourself what happens. Scroll down to see what's up.

Motorsports: This is why LeMons is the best race series

05/06/2012   [Original: Autoblog]

This weekend, Audi marked the competition debut of its latest R18 race cars at the World Endurance Championships at Spa Francorchamps. Yet the most spectacular race car running on any track this weekend was thousands of miles away at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the 24 Hours of Lemons "Loudon Annoying" event taking place at the very same time.

Yes, that's a pop-up camper trailer that's been converted into a race car by SpeedyCop. And there's video of it after the jump. Now, before you click, see if you can guess what the car underneath is. (Hint, there's another photo in the gallery that makes it very clear.) That answer is also posted after the break, and it makes the whole rig even more fantastic.

Thanks to our friend (and Consumer Reports hotshoe) Jake Fisher for the on-site photos!

Video: Ford's EcoBoost is a toad-killing powerhouse

Ford of Australia Cane Toad EcoBoost ad

Apparently, the world's population of talking frogs have turned their allegiance from Budweiser and are now shilling for Ford of Australia. At least, those that haven't been smashed into great green globs of greasy, grimy cane toad guts.

Let's set the scene: A pair of Australian cane toads - the species, native to Central and South America, was imported into Australia in an unsuccessful attempt to control Beetle populations - are having a nighttime chat on a random road somewhere in Oz. The subject matter ranges from the tastiness and arousing properties of the toads' own back secretions to the velocity with which a four-cylinder car can travel. In this case, the car is powered by one of Ford's turbocharged EcoBoost engines.

And then... disaster strikes. It's certainly an odd advertisement, but at least it's unique. Oh, and if you're a member of PETA, you might want to look away. See for yourself by scrolling down below.

Video: "Dogs in Cars" will cheer you up

05/04/2012   [Original: Autoblog]
Category: Videos, Humor

Having a ruff day on the road? Don't take it out on other drivers, do what dogs do when they're out for a ride. Director Keith Hopkin takes to California's highways and byways and films eight dogs "doing what they love to do," he says on his Vimeo channel.

The video captures that pure enjoyment of a dog's nose in the wind, the sun on his fur and not having a care in the world. There's even a slow motion montage where each dog closes his eyes, smiles and dreams of bacon.

Perhaps one of the best moments is at 1:04 when Beans the dog rides past a Bugatti Veyron and checks it out. Dogs may not know cars, but they do know a good breeze.

Of course, it doesn't appear any of the dogs are strapped in to their seats, which is illegal in California. The Golden State requires pets be buckled up on in a cage when riding in a car. Then again, the unharnessed pooches won't get a ticket, their owners will. Scroll down to watch the video, and click here for the creator's Facebook page if you want to become a fan.
